Plow Day
Plow Day-----April 21, 2007
After three weeks of rain delay, Plow Day finally happened on Saturday, April 21, 2007 west of Bonner Springs, KS on Kansas River bottom ground owned by Mark Meinke and Don Rohrbach. Thanks to the farmers for providing the property along with lunch. Thanks also to John Didde for planning and organizing the day’s activity. The weather was great which made for an enjoyable day. Fourteen tractors (93% JD) with plows appeared on the horizon early and were turning ground over by 9:00 a.m. Eight of the tractors had three bottom plows while six of them had two bottom plows-------every round totaled 42 feet of furrow. It definitely was a fun way to plow a field or two (approximately 105 acres). Tractor drivers included the following: Steve Reed, Paul Antes, Kenneth Thompson, Dan Hanna, Gene Rogers, Glenn Ratzlaff, Duane Craig, Louis Gast, Wes Storm, Bob Antes, James Barger, Jim Arnote, John Didde, and Jack O’Dell. Wes Storm said it best when he stated in an email to the president, “ It was one of the most enjoyable days that I can remember and will remember for a long time. It was well put together and everyone seemed to have a great time. It has been a long time since I had spent that much time plowing. It brings back memories of my life on the farm growing up in Illinois. There is nothing like the sweet smell of freshly plowed ground. It was quite a sight seeing the 14 tractors plowing and I think every driver had a smile on his face.” AND THE PRESIDENT SAID, AMEN.
